Mahjong
Mondays at 10:00AM
Mahjong is a tile game originally played only by Chinese royalty.
It may have originated with Confucius about 500 BC. Eventually, it became a popular game played by the masses. The tiles have Chinese
symbols and each set of Mahjong has a slightly different appearance from another set. Aside from the ritual of distributing tiles to
players and passing these tiles in a maneuver known as Charleston, the game is played in a similar fashion to the card game Gin Rummy.
The game became popular in the U.S. in the 1920's. Instructor, Carol Deforges, is a retired teacher who loves to teach Mahjong. She would
love to have Hamilton House members take the game one step further and challenge the Brown University students.
